Story (Overview)

Hailing from the Azim Steppe, Buqa traveled to Ul'dah from the continent of Othard and quickly found work with the Miners' Guild after proving himself as a capable miner. Thanks to the unique upbringing of Au Ra in the Bairon tribe, he was able to establish himself as one of the most resourceful and courageous miners in the region he now calls home. A born daredevil, he'll take on jobs that no one else is willing to accept due to dangerous and/or uncomfortable conditions.Although working the mines is tough and unforgiving, Buqa has no regrets about leaving his ancestral homeland to explore new frontiers in the west. After all, the Xaela are a nomadic people, and becoming a miner allowed him to travel the world while providing for himself.Thanks to his muscles and training as a Xaela, Buqa also joined the Pugilists' Guild, where he garnered a reputation among other Ul'dahns for being willing to punch anyone and everyone he's hired to fight.

Backstory

Born to the Bairon tribe, Buqa was named after the mighty bull—a symbol of strength and power. His father taught him that life would reward those who put in the effort to make the most of it, and his mother showed him how to stand his ground. As a result, Buqa was raised to have a strong work ethic and know his own worth, although some may say his social skills are lacking as a result of this no-nonsense mindset. He's as stubborn and aggressive as a bull, and although he's sometimes as dumb as the rocks he mines, Buqa is also dedicated and sees no point in lying or deceiving others, even if others prefer to hear white lies. He's just a simple man who wears his heart on his sleeve.As a child, he was trained on how to survive in some of the harshest conditions found in the Azim Steppe. Most of his early life was spent in Nhaama's Retreat, learning how to survive in the desert and building up his tolerance to the extreme temperatures that could only be found in such dry areas. However, as he grew older, Buqa felt the urge to explore past the territories his tribe claimed. While he was comfortable enough in the unforgiving dry lands of the southwest to feel at home, if the Xaela were nomads by nature, then why should he continue to stay somewhere he was already familiar with? The Bairon were known as masters of survival, but he had never had the opportunity to test his skills in other climes. The desert may pose the most extreme challenges for hardened survivalists, but that did not mean other environments did not have their own unique trials to overcome. His desire to find out if he was truly a master of survival only grew, as did his nautral curiosity.Eventually, with the encouragement of his parents, Buqa could no longer resist his growing wanderlust and left the tribe to discover the rest of the world. While he was able to survive in the wilderness on his own, when he set foot in Thanalan, he couldn't help but feel homesick. The dry heat, the muted colors, the vast expanse of flowing sands… It all reminded him of home. The moment he saw Ul'dah for the first time, Buqa finally decided to settle down to create a proper home for himself.Maybe one day, when he eventually grew tired of staying in one location again, Buqa will return to his motherland and share tales of his adventures with the people and tribe that made the journey possible.
